Recipe: š‚hristmas Means š†ingerbread

I donā€™t know about your family traditions but in our house we grew up with the annual gingerbread making session.

With 3 architects in the family this meant a serious gingerbread house project, not just gingerbread men! We would have plans drawn up, the dough had to be cut to precision and the assembly was certainly not a job for the kids!

Decorating thoughā€¦..that was all about the kids and their imagination!

This year we havenā€™t quite decided if we will do such a big project but we have started the season with these gingerbread men and shapes. So much fun!ā£

ā£ā£Hereā€™s the recipe we used this year. Let me know if you give it a go.ā£

* Cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. ā£

* Beat in molasses, egg and water. ā£

* In another bowl, mix together the remaining dry ingredients.ā£

* Gradually beat the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture. ā£

* Divide dough in half. Shape each into a disk; cover. Refrigerate until easy to handle, about 30 minutes.ā£

* Preheat oven to 170Ā° C. ā£

* On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion of dough to 3mm thickness. Cut with a floured gingerbread man cookie cutter or any shape you like really!ā£

* Place on lined baking tray with plenty of space in-between each cookie.ā£

* Bake until edges are firm, 8-10 minutes. ā£

* Remove to wire racks to cool completely. ā£
